Roof Cleaning in Marlboro NJ
Are Roof Stains Robbing Your Homes Appearance?
Roofs with odd angles can create a challenge. To safely clean roofs like these, walking them is not an option. To safely clean roof shingles like these on a high roof with a steep pitch one must spray form the gutter line. This is the max size of a roof before a lift is required, Though the staining was not so severe, this homeowner was proactive in treating this roof before it became a major issue.
Thanks for finding our blog. My name is Ed Thomspon, owner of Thompson Roof Cleaning and Powerwashing located in Woodbridge, Brick, and Middlesex NJ. The stains were removed by using a foaming anti-microbial detergent designed specifically for roofing shingle. A pressure washer should never be used to clean a roof. Even moss or lichens can be treated which will cause these items to dry out and decompose. After a short period of time the moss or lichens will become brittle and the rains will wash it away. High water pressure can dislodge large amounts of roofing granules. Those little gritty granules are what protects the underlying membrane. Without these granules the shingles will deteriorate from weather and the suns UV rays.
Yes! Your Roof Can Be Cleaned!
Your roof can be cleaned without using the aggressive power of a pressure washer. Black stains on a roof are bacteria feeding on the limestone in the roofing shingle. We use a soft-washing technique which relies more on the science of the detergents to achieve the results we seek. Every surface has its own detergent. Vinyl, alumimun, stucco, dryvit, cement, gutters, and all other exterior items can be washed using the soft wash method. Call us anytime for a free cleaning evaluation. Ask us about our 3 Year Spot Free Warranty which comes with every full roof treatment.
Roof Moss Removal
Moss can develop a root system just like a plant. If you pull it off abruptly you will most certainly take the roofing granules off with the moss. To treat roofs with moss without causing damage or scars, moss should be treated and killed then left alone. It will die of and dry out. As it decomposes the root system will release on its own. This process is a slow process and without instant gratification, but it is the least aggressive way to clean the roof without causing damage. This process of treatment with total sterilization will actually keep the roof clean 4-6 times longer than a power wash method.
Thank you,
